Waking the Sea (2025)

I was excited to collaborate with artist Jo Wood-Brown on Waking the Sea, a three-channel video installation with live performance, presented at the Judith Mara Carson Center for Visual Arts at Marymount Manhattan College (221 E 71st Street, 8th Floor of Carson Hall, NYC).

The work was shown on April 19 with two evening screenings at 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. I also performed live alongside Jo during the presentation. The piece features music by Rob Brown and Satoshi Takeshi, with editing by Clare Altman.

Waking the Sea reimagines Jo’s 2023 installation into a mythic narrative about land, spirit, and time.

As Jo describes it:
"Waking the Sea fictionalizes the immersive installation SEAsaw Sailing the Cosmic Sea: Kiso River (2023) to tell an overarching myth of the land. It is a journey across water and through the growth of civilization, a dialogue between the Japanese landscape, the unseen world of spirits, and the beings that move across culture and time. Using my paintings as independent agents in the act of discovery, they help tell the story of the river and the factory through a feminine sensibility." — Jo Wood-Brown
