Contusion
2024, Blueberries, cheesecloth, raspberries string, and turmeric, 69" x 30"
Contusion explores the tension between emotional intensity and material fragility through the use of ephemeral, organic matter. Overripe fruit and food scraps, gathered from moments of isolation and introspection, become tools for mark-making, applied through acts of smashing, chewing, spitting, and staining. These gestures echo the bruising of the body, both literal and metaphorical, leaving behind visceral traces of frustration, tenderness, and release.
The use of cheesecloth as a surface emphasizes permeability and vulnerability, allowing the materials to seep, bleed, and decompose over time. The resulting textures and hues reflect cycles of rupture and healing, capturing a moment of catharsis through tactile engagement with the impermanent and imperfect.
