Never May the Fruit Be Picked
Installation featuring Masticate and Expectorate

In a time marked by a deep and immobilizing fear of leaving my home, I turned to what was immediately around me: my body, my kitchen, and the quiet rituals of daily life. Never May the Fruit Be Picked emerged from this period of isolation and constraint, shaped by the need to create within the boundaries of a domestic interior.

The works in this installation, Masticate and Expectorate, were made using leftover fruit, which I chewed and spat onto cheesecloth surfaces stained with turmeric and fruit juice. This process, intimate, repetitive, and slightly grotesque, reflects a visceral relationship with nourishment, decay, and the body's imprint. By engaging with digestion and expulsion as artistic gestures, I was examining how the body functions as both a medium and a mark of creative expression.

The resulting pieces are fragile, marked by their ephemerality and the raw immediacy of their materials. Together, they speak to themes of confinement, transformation, and the blurred boundary between care and discomfort.
